Yes, two people can use Audible at the same time. Audible allows you to sign in on multiple devices using the same account.
Two users can listen to audiobooks simultaneously on different devices.
The two main ways to share Audible are:
- Use the same Audible account on multiple devices.
- Share purchased audiobooks through Amazon Household.
For most families, Amazon Household is the better option because each person uses their own Amazon account while still accessing shared audiobooks.
Method 1 — How to Use Audible on Multiple Devices
I regularly use Audible on an iPhone, Android phone, and MacBook. Audible keeps all of these devices connected to the same library.
To use the same account on two devices:
- Install the Audible app on each device.
- Sign in on both devices using the same Audible account.
- Open your Library to access your audiobooks.
When signing in to your account on the second device, Audible will ask if you want to link the device to your Audible account, Select Yes to link your account.
After signing in, both users can listen to Audible content simultaneously.
Note: If two users are listening to the same audiobook simultaneously and their devices are connected to the internet, the best practice is to disable synching (at least on one device).
Disable the synching option from Profile > Settings > Player > Sync Listening Position.
Pros of Using One Audible Account on Multiple Devices
- No additional Audible membership is required.
- Both users can access all purchased audiobooks.
- The second user does not need their own Audible subscription.
Cons of Using One Audible Account on Multiple Devices
- Listening positions can become mixed up.
- Both users share the same library and account settings.
- One user can accidentally remove titles or change organization settings.
- The account owner must share account credentials.
- Payment information may be visible to the other user.
Method 2 — Amazon Household Sharing
Amazon Household lets eligible family members access shared Audible purchases while using separate Amazon accounts.

What Is Amazon Household?
Amazon Household is a family-sharing feature that allows members of the same household to share eligible digital content.
Amazon Household can include:
- Up to 2 adults
- Up to 4 teens
- Up to 4 children
Eligible members can share:
- Audible audiobooks
- Kindle books
- Apps and games
- Amazon Prime Membership benefits
How Do You Share Audible Books Through Amazon Household?
Follow these steps to share content through the household feature.
Step 1: Create an Amazon Household
- Go to the Amazon Household page.
- Click Add Adult, Add a Teen, or Add a Child depending on who you want to add.
- Enter the other person’s name and email address, then click Continue.
- Select which types of digital content you want to share (audiobooks, eBooks, apps, games).
- Confirm you share a household address, then click Send Invite.
The invited adult or teen must accept the invitation within 14 days. You will receive a notification once they join.
Step 2: Share Audible Books Through Amazon Household
- Go to the Content page and choose View: Audiobooks [You can go to the Content page from your Amazon account > Content & Devices]
- Select the audiobooks you want to share, then click Add to Library to add them to the shared family library.
Household members can now access those titles from their own Audible accounts.
Pros of Amazon Household Sharing
- Each family member keeps a separate account with their own listening history, progress, and preferences.
- No login credentials need to be shared, which protects payment and personal information.
- Family members without an Audible membership can still access the shared audiobooks.
- Parents can control and personalize the content available to children, including time limits.
Cons of Amazon Household Sharing
- Audible Plus Catalog titles and membership credits cannot be shared, only purchased audiobooks are eligible.
- Amazon requires all Household members to share the same home address.
- Teen accounts cannot share content back to the family library.
- Badge collections are not shared across Household accounts.
The better long-term solution for families is Amazon Household because each person keeps a separate Amazon account while still accessing shared Audible purchases.

To share an Audible account if you don’t want a household connection, you can’t simply turn off the Audible app’s syncing. The primary account holder must also turn off syncing in Amazon’s Content & Devices preferences. Every app that can sync with the Audible account must also turn off syncing. Every cell phone and tablet with an Audible and Kindle app that syncs with the Audible account must also remove syncing in its app setting.
Amazon seems to have their system set to override any ‘no sync’ preference if any app has sync turned on. So even if you download + turn off your internet connection before accessing the audiobook, as soon as you’re online to connect to Audible again, sync being on will have any audiobook(s) start syncing across devices and apps the same as if you were streaming.
That’s why you have to shut down syncing everywhere to share an Audible account with others.
If you want to go back to syncing for some reason, the ONLY way to get others not to wreak havoc on where you’ve left off in a book is to change your Audible password so that no one else can access it.
