Smart Audiobook Player is my go-to Android app for listening to audiobooks. But like any app, it is not perfect.
Over time, you may run into a few Smart Audiobook Player problems that interrupt your listening experience.
The good news is that most of these issues are easy to fix once you understand what’s causing them.
Let’s have a look at 15 common problems and their practical fixes.

1. Audiobooks Not Showing Up in the Library
Problem:
Files are on the phone, but Smart Audiobook Player shows an empty library.
Quick Fix:
- Make sure audiobooks are placed in one main folder. Keep folder hierarchy as Audiobooks/Author Name/ Book Name/*.MP3.
Each audiobook should have its own folder, even if it has only one file. - Go in Library > Settings > three-dot menu (top right) > Root Folder to choose the location of the root folder.
- Go to Settings and tap on the Full Scan option.

All audiobooks will now show in the Library section.
2. App Does Not Detect M4B or MP3 Files
Problem:
Supported formats still don’t appear.
Quick Fix:
- Confirm file extensions are one of the supported formats.
- Rename files if they have incorrect extensions.
- Close and reopen the app and tap the Full Scan option.
The supported formats include MP3, M4A, M4B, AAC, WMA, OGG, FLAC, AWB, and Opus.
3. Playback Position Is Not Saving
Problem:
Audiobook restarts from the beginning every time I open it.
Quick Fix:
- Disable battery optimization for Smart Audiobook Player.
- Enable Save playback position in Settings.
- Avoid force-closing the app while audiobook is playing.
4. Audiobook Starts Playing Automatically
Problem:
Playback starts automatically when headphones connect or app opens.
Quick Fix:
- Go to Settings > Playback in the player.
- Disable the Play on headset connect option.

5. Cover Art Not Showing or Incorrect
Problem:
Books appear without cover art or with wrong images.
Quick Fix:
- Long-press the audiobook cover in the Library section and tap on the search cover on the internet option.

- Choose the right cover art from the search results.
Adding a cover improves the visual look of the Library section.
6. Chapters Are Missing or Not Working
Problem:
No chapter navigation even for chapter-based audiobooks.
Quick Fix:
- Use M4B format when possible.
- Make sure MP3 files are correctly split per chapter.
- Make sure Show Chapters option is enabled in Smart Audiobook Player’s Settings > Full Version Settings.

7. Sleep Timer Stops Working
Problem:
Audiobook keeps playing past the sleep timer.
Quick Fix:
- Tap on Sleep Timer > Stop at end of chapter.


- Disable aggressive battery-saving modes.
8. Volume Is Too Low or Inconsistent
Problem:
Voice sounds quiet or volume fluctuates.
Quick Fix:
- Enable the built-in Equalizer.

- Use the Boost Volume option.

- Disable system-level sound enhancements if needed.
9. App Crashes or Freezes
Problem:
Smart Audiobook Player becomes unresponsive.
Quick Fix:
- Clear app cache (not data). Go to Settings > Apps > Smart Audiobook Player > Storage and tap on Clear Cache

- Update to the latest version.
- Restart the device.
10. Audiobooks Play in the Wrong Order
Problem:
Chapters play out of sequence.
Quick Fix:
- Rename files numerically (01, 02, 03).
- Ensure correct folder structure as explained in the Problem 1.
- Rescan the library.
11. M4B Files Not Playing in Smart Audiobook Player
Problem:
M4B audiobooks do not appear in the library or fail to play properly.
Quick Fix:
Smart Audiobook Player fully supports M4B files. In fact, M4B is one of the best formats to use because it supports chapters and bookmarks natively.
If an M4B file is not showing up, make sure it is placed inside the correct audiobook folder and run a Full Scan from the app settings.
12. Smart Audiobook Player Does Not Work With Alexa
Problem:
You want to play audiobooks on Alexa or Echo devices directly from Smart Audiobook Player.
Quick Fix:
Smart Audiobook Player does not natively integrate with Alexa. However, you can still listen on Alexa by using Bluetooth and connecting your phone to the Echo device.
Once connected, the audiobook plays through Alexa like any other Bluetooth audio source.
13. Can Smart Audiobook Player Play AAX Files?
Problem:
Audible AAX files do not show up or will not play.
Quick Fix:
Smart Audiobook Player does not support AAX files format.To use these audiobooks, you need to first convert AAX files to a DRM free format like MP3 or M4B using a legal AAX converter.
14. Can Smart Audiobook Player Play OverDrive Files?
Problem:
Audiobooks borrowed from OverDrive or Libby do not work in Smart Audiobook Player.
Quick Fix:
OverDrive and Libby audiobooks are usually DRM protected and cannot be played directly in Smart Audiobook Player.
These files are meant to be used inside the official OverDrive or Libby apps.
If you legally obtain a DRM-free version of the same audiobook, it will work without any issues.
15. Is Smart Audiobook Player Available for iPhone
Problem:
I am looking for an iOS version of Smart Audiobook Player.
Quick Fix:
Smart Audiobook Player is only available on Android. There is no official iPhone or iOS version of the app.
If you are using an iPhone, you can use an alternative audiobook player designed specifically for iOS like MP3 Audiobook Player or BookPlayer.
