How to Share Audible Books with Family Members [Quick Guide]

Amazon’s Household feature is a key benefit of Audible membership that enables you to share Audible books with your family members without any extra cost.

It allows you to share your Amazon benefits, audiobooks and other types of digital content with your household members for free.

The Amazon Household can include

  • Up to 2 adults [18 years and older]
  • Up to 4 teens (13 – 17 years old)
  • Up to 4 children [children don’t need an Amazon account to join]

You can control and personalize each child’s experience including selecting what content your children can see, and set educational goals and time limits.

Other family members only need a simple Amazon/ Audible account (without any membership plan) to access the shared content.

Your Household invitees must live in the same country or region as you.

Before showing you how to share Audible books with family members, let’s have a quick look at type of content you can share via Amazon Household feature.

What Can You Share with Amazon Household?

The Amazon Household allows you to share Audible books, eBooks (Kindle books), apps & games, Prime membership benefits, Amazon Music, and more with your family members.

You can share digital content (audiobooks, eBooks, apps, games etc) with your household members on your Kindle and other Amazon devices and apps.

Prime members can share following Prime benefits with their household.

  • Free Prime Delivery benefits
  • Prime Video streaming access
  • Free books with Prime Reading
  • Amazon Photos and album
  • Early access to Amazon Lightening Deals

Here are a few restrictions while sharing content through Family Library in the Amazon Household

  • Teen logins in your Amazon Household can’t share content through Family Library.
  • You cannot share Plus Catalog titles and membership credits with other Household members as you do not own Plus Catalog titles.
  • Customers who receive shipping benefits from another member cannot share Prime benefits with their Household

You can control and personalize each child’s experience by selecting what content they can see.

How to Share Audible Books with Family Members Through Amazon Household

Before showing you how to share an audible book with family members, let’s first create your Amazon Household and add your family members to it.

Step 1: Create Your Amazon Household

To create the Amazon Household

  • Go to Amazon Household page
  • Here you have option to create Amazon Household with an adult, a teen, and a child. I will go for Add Adult

  • Next, provide the name and email of the user you want to add. The user only need an Amazon/ Audible account. They can create a new free account if they don’t already have one.

  • You will be asked to share your wallet to verify you live together. You can also select the digital content you want to share with the added user here including Audible books, eBooks, and more.

  • Finally, send the invitation to user by clicking on Send Invite

Family member will receive the invitation via email which they need to accept within 14 days.

Accept and join the Household by clicking on Get Started. or click on Decline and do not join Amazon Household if the recipient is not interested to join.

Your family member will get another message, click on the Continue option to proceed

Finally sign in with your Amazon account or create a new free account.

If you can’t invite a family member or they can’t join the Household, it could be because of one of the following reasons.

  • The Amazon Household has reached its members limit of up to 6 family members (up to two adults, up to four teens, and up to four children).
  • The person you are inviting has recently left an Amazon Household. You can switch to new Amazon Family every 12 months or rejoin the previous family anytime.
  • The family member you invited is not living in same country/ region as you.

If the person you have invited receives a Country/Region of residence or marketplace error,

Set the address in the same country as the inviter.

Step 2: Share Content with Amazon Household Members

You can share digital content with your Amazon Household members via Family Library including Audible books, eBooks, apps and games, Prime Video streaming access, Amazon Music and more.

Let’s see how to share an Audible book with family members through Family Library.

  • Go to the Content Page. You can go to the Content page from Amazon Account > Content & Devices and click on the Audiobooks option

  • Here, you have all purchased titles. Click on Select All to select all titles in the list or individually select titles you want to share with your Amazon Household members. Click on Add to Library option to add the selected titles to Family Library

A new window will open to give you Family Library options.

If you want to share other type of content (including eBooks, apps, music etc), click on View: Audiobooks option and select other type of content to share in your Family Library.

If you want to remove a title from Family Library, select the title and click on Remove from Library.

Manage Amazon Family Members

To manage your Amazon household family members. Go to the Amazon Family page. You can remove an adult from your household by clicking on Remove option under the avatar.

To remove a teen from your household, select the Edit Profile for the account and select Remove from Household option.

Child profiles that are inactive for more than 18 months are automatically removed. You can not access a child profile after it is removed. 

Amazon Household is a useful feature to share Audible books and other digital content with your loved ones without any extra cost.

This method enables two or more people to listen to the same Audible books.
