How to Gift an Audible Book to a Friend

There is no better gift for book lovers than an audiobook. Audible (and Amazon) make it super convenient to gift individual titles to your loved ones.

With Audible’s extensive book collection, you can find audiobooks in all genres and to match everyone’s taste.

If you are looking for how to buy an Audible book for a friend or family member, this article covers every aspect of gifting an Audible book.

Before showing you how to buy Audible books as gifts from Audible’s website, app, or Amazon, here are a few important things to know. 

• You do not need an Audible membership to gift a book to others. The audiobook will cost you more without a membership as Audible offers a 30% discount to its members on all cash purchases.

• The gift recipient does not need to be an Audible member either. They can listen to the audiobook that they received on the free Audible app. (or without the app)
• You can gift an Audible book from Audible’s website, app, or Amazon.
• It is also possible to gift an Audible book that you already own
• You can gift an Audible book using your membership credit. Bonus or promotional credits (received through various offers) cannot be used to buy gift books. It is also not possible to use credits from a book return to purchase a title as a gift.
• The gift receiver can listen to the audiobook on the free Audible app but they will need an Amazon account to sign in to Audible. Amazon account is free and takes a few minutes to create.

How to Gift an Audible Book from Audible’s Website

To gift an Audible book to your friend or family member from the Audible website, follow the steps below.

• Open the Audible website on your computer and sign in to Audible using Amazon account details.
• To explore all available audiobooks by category, click on the Browse option at the top navigation bar. You can also search for a book by typing the title in the search bar.

• Once you have selected an audiobook that you want to gift, go to the book’s details page and click on More options. Although you do not need an Audible membership to gift a title, you will get a 30% discount with a membership. Notice the price difference for the book I Will Teach You to Be Rich.

• Next, click on the Give as a gift option

• You can either send the gift title through Email or Print it to deliver by hand or post. I will go for the email option. Provide the recipient’s email address, name, delivery date, and custom message. Click on Continue after you are done

• The next screen lists all the details for you to preview before purchasing the title as a gift. You can click on the Edit details option if you need to change anything. After reviewing the details, click on Buy for $XX.XX or Buy for 1 Credit option.

You can either buy the books using cash (bank card) or a credit.

You will get an email confirmation about your purchase. If you chose Print as the delivery method, instructions will follow on how to print and fold your gift card.

Audible also has a dedicated Gift Center page where you can gift Audible membership or individual titles to your family and friends.

You can go to Gift Center and scroll down to the Gift a Specific title section. Here, search for the audiobook that you want to gift.

Click on Give as a gift under the title and follow the on-screen instructions (as explained above) to complete the purchase.

The gift receiver can click on Redeem your gift from the email and then select Redeem from the Gift Center. They need to sign in using an Amazon account to receive the gift.

Another option is to claim the gift from the Gift center.

• Go to the Gift Center
• Click on Redeem your gift button
• Copy the Claim Code from the gift email and paste it on the field and click on Redeem

Sign in to the Amazon account to accept the gift or create a new Amazon account for free.

How to Gift an Audiobook from Audible’s Mobile Website

You can also gift a title from Audible’s mobile website on your mobile devices.

• Open the Audible website in any web browser and sign in to your account
• Tap on the search icon (magnifying glass) and write a title’s name to search. You can also explore all available books by tapping on the hamburger icon (3 horizontal lines) and going to the Browse section.
• On the title’s details page, tap on More Options > Give as a gift

• Specify how you want to send the gift, provide the recipient’s details, delivery date, and a custom message, and click on Continue.

• Next, preview all the details, and edit any details that you want to change by tapping on the Edit details option. Tap on Buy for $XX.XX or Buy for 1 Credit to make the purchase.

You will receive an order confirmation through email. The gift recipient will receive an email with details on how to redeem their gift.

How to Gift an Audible Book from the App

Follow the instructions below to buy an Audible book for a friend or a family member on the Audible app

• Open the Audible app on your mobile and sign in to your account
• Tap on the Discover option from the bottom navigation bar. To find a title to gift, you can either Browse by category or search the title by tapping on the search icon (magnifying glass) at the top right of the screen.

• On the book’s details page, tap on More options > Give as a gift

• Next, select how would you like to send your gift, provide the recipient’s details, write a custom message, specify the delivery date, and tap on Continue.

• On the next screen, preview all details and tap Buy for $XX.XX or Buy for 1 Credit

The gift purchase is done. You will get the purchase confirmation through email and the recipient will receive the gift title along with details on how to redeem the gift.

Note: Audible app for iOS devices (iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad) does not have the option to purchase an audiobook as a gift. If you want to gift a title on Apple devices, use Audible’s mobile site (as explained above)

How to Gift an Audiobook on Amazon

You also have an option to buy an Audible book as a gift through Amazon.

• Open the Amazon site and sign in
• Search the audiobook from the top search bar
• On the book details page, click on the Give as Gift option. Make sure ‘Audiobook’ is selected as book format.

• In the Personalize section provide the recipient’s details, and delivery date and write a note. You can preview the output as you type. Click on continue to checkout after providing all the required information.

• The final step is to confirm your purchase and you are done

Audiobooks from Audible and Amazon are the same as Audible is owned by Amazon. The receiver will get an email with the gift details and instructions to redeem the gift.
