Everand: The Netflix for Audiobooks and eBooks

Scribd had documents, eBooks, audiobooks, and other types of content under one platform.

It was confusing for book lovers who searched for audiobooks or eBooks as search results were cluttered with unrelated content like magazines, and PDF documents.

In November 2023, Scribd divided its content into two products; Everand and Scribd.

Everand is home to eBooks, audiobooks, podcasts, newspapers, magazines, and sheet music while Scribd offers digital documents such as legal documents, academic papers, and manuals.

This article focuses on Everand’ subscription with pros and cons to help you decide if Everand is worth it for book lovers.

Everand Subscription Review

Everand offers monthly and annual membership plans that allow full access to the entire catalog. One subscription gives you access to 3 platforms

  • Everand: eBooks, audiobooks, podcasts, magazines, newspapers and sheet music
  • Scribd: Community-uploaded documents including academic papers, legal documents, and manuals
  • SlideShare: Presentations and professional content

Everand subscription works like Netflix, where you can access the full catalog of eBooks and audiobooks without paying for individual titles.

Everand has a huge collection of eBooks and audiobooks, including bestsellers, new releases, and original content.

5 Pros or Everand

I have used the Everand for quite a while now. Here are some of the major pros of the Everand platform, in my opinion.

1. Free Trial

You can sign up for the 30-day free trial for both monthly and annual plans. The free trial comes with all the benefits of a regular subscription.

You can cancel the free trial or subscription anytime you want, no questions asked.

This gives you enough time to try the Eevrand membership and check out its catalog

2. Affordable Subscription

The monthly subscription comes at $9.99 /month, while the annual membership costs $84.99 ($7.09/month).

Everand monthly and annual plans

Everand is one of the most affordable platforms for book lovers that gives you access to both formats (eBooks and audiobooks) for a low monthly price.

3. No Need to Purchase Individual Titles

Most audiobook platforms offer you one or two audiobooks for a monthly charge, and you must purchase any additional title you want to listen to.

This is a limiting factor for avid book lovers.

On Everand, you do not need to purchase any book. All audiobooks and eBooks are available for streaming without paying for them.

4. Try New Authors, Narrators and Genres

Because it is a subscription-based service, it does not feel like a risk to try new authors, narrators, or genres.

If you start listening to something and decide ‘meh’ and move on, there is nothing to lose.

You do not need to return a title or lose credit or cash because you did not like a title.

5. eBooks and Audiobooks Under One Subscription

Everand offers both eBooks and audiobook formats to its members. This gives you lots of options for book enthusiasts.

If a book is not available in audio format you can get the eBook. Also, if you hit the monthly limit on a specific audiobook (more on this later in the article), you can continue reading the eBook or look for other options.

I love Everand’s recommendations and curated lists. I think their recommendations are epic and perfectly highlight the books according to your taste.

4 Cons of Everand

Here are some of the disadvantages of an Everand subscription.

1. Monthly Limits

Although Everand gives you full access to their catalog, it is not truly unlimited. There are monthly limits on some titles and a lack of transparency on how monthly limits work.

These limits are caused by each subscriber’s individual recent reading/listening activity. If you encounter a limit on a particular title, the title will be inaccessible to you until your next billing cycle.
According to Everand

If you encounter a limit on a title, it will be inaccessible to you until the next billing cycle, but you can read/ listen to other titles in the meantime.

If you want to listen to 5 titles, you may end up listening to 2/3 titles before you hit the monthly limit.

Looking only for popular titles and new releases? you will likely hit the monthly limit sooner.

If you tend to listen to a lot of new releases or popular titles at the start of the month, they will start to limit your selection of audiobooks to listen to.

Everand offers no clarity on how monthly limits work and most users complain about this issue and lack of transparency from Everand.

For avid book enthusiasts, content ‘throttling’ is a major drawback of Everand’s service.

2. You Don’t Own the Books

Everand is a streaming service like Netflix where you can stream audiobooks and eBooks for a flat monthly fee (or download them for offline listening).

Since you do not own these books, they are available as long as you have an active subscription.

If you want to own the audiobooks you pay for, I recommend checking other platforms like Audible, Chirp, Audiobooks.com, etc.

3. Not Compatible with eReaders

Everand is not compatible with most ebooks readers such as Nook, GlowLight, and most versions of Kindle. You cannot use Everand on your Kobo and Kindle devices.

This is a major turn-off for eBook lovers because Everand’s eBooks collection is huge and exceeds that of Kindle Unlimited or Kobo Plus.

For eBook reading, you have to use the Everand app (on a smartphone or tablet) or read on your computer screen.

4. No Samples

Everand does not offer samples for audiobooks and ebooks. A sample gives you a taste of narration and helps you decide if you should listen to the audiobook.

The Everand App

Everand’s app is the best way to consume the content and access Everand’s digital library. The app supports offline listening and comes with an easy-to-use interface.

Everand app has 5 main sections, accessible from the bottom navigation bar, including Home, Top Charts, Discover, Saved, and Account.

Everand app sections

Here is a brief description of each section.

Who is Everand’s subscription for?

After using the Everand membership for a while, I think it is ideal for

  • Book enthusiasts who like both eBook and audiobook formats
  • Audiobook listeners who want access to the full catalog with a flat monthly subscription and do not want to purchase or own titles
  • Readers/ Listeners of different interests who are not only looking for the latest releases

You may want to think twice if you

  • Only listen to popular titles and new releases because of the monthly limits
  • Enjoy your eBooks on Kindle or other eReaders as Everand is not compatible with these devices

I think there are plenty of reasons for you to try Everand’s platform. Everand offers an affordable monthly plan that justifies itself even if you listen to a couple of titles or read a few eBooks. One unique feature of Everand is that you get access to both eBooks and audiobooks under one subscription

You can sign up for the free trial from Everand’s app or website which gives you a full month to explore their catalog for one month without any payment.
