Audible renamed “Archive This Title” to “Hide This Title,” which often confuses users.
In simple terms, Hide removes a book from your library view, while Remove Download deletes it from your device storage.
This guide explains the difference between these features and when to use each one.
1: The “Hide this title” Feature
What is “Hide this title” on Audible?
“Hide this title” removes an audiobook from your main library view and moves it into a hidden folder, helping you with decluttering your Audible Library.
What happens when you hide a book?
- The audiobook disappears from your main Library list
- It moves to a Hidden folder
- You still fully own it
- You can unhide it anytime and continue listening
Consider the hide feature as a box of books in your basement. You own the books and they are always there if you need them but you do not see them every day and they do not take space on your library shelf.
Why use the Hide feature?
From my experience, this becomes very useful once your library grows.
When I started using Audible regularly, I ended up with dozens of finished audiobooks mixed with unfinished books.
It became hard to track what I had already listened to and what I still needed to complete in a series. Hiding finished titles made the library feel significantly more manageable.

Where do Hidden books go?
Well, the hidden titles are moved to the Hidden folder in your Audible app.
To access the hidden folder:
- Go to the Library section
- Next, tap on the Lists option

- Scroll down to find and tap the Hidden folder
This folder contains all your hidden titles. You can either long-press a book cover or tap on the on the ellipses option (⋮) in front of the title and tap Unhide title to add it back to your library.

Does Hiding Audible books save space?
The hide option declutters and manages your library section. It does not remove the downloaded files so storage remains unchanged.
If a book is already downloaded on your device, you must use the remove download option to delete it from your device to free up the storage space before hiding it.

You may have 50-100 books in your library from various series. It can be very confusing to figure out which one you have listened to and which one is the next book in the series.
Hiding finished books help you clean the clutter.
2: The “Remove Download” Feature
What is “Remove Download” on Audible?
The “Remove Download” feature deletes the audiobook from your device but the book cover stays visible in your library section.
What happens when you remove a download?
- The audiobook is deleted from your phone storage
- The book still appears in your library section
- You can re-download it anytime
- It frees up device storage space

Hide vs Remove Download – Which Option Should You Use?
Use “Hide This Title” when:
- Your library feels cluttered
- You have finished books but don’t want to see them
- You want better organization
Use “Remove Download” when:
- Your phone storage is full
- You want to keep books but not store them locally
- You listen across multiple devices
Best Practice (Recommended Workflow)
The most efficient way to use Audible is combining both:
- Don’t download books until you are ready to listen
- Remove downloads after finishing
- Hide completed titles to clean your library
- Enable auto-remove for convenience
This keeps your app clean, fast, and easy to navigate.
Can You Permanently Delete Audiobooks from Audible?
Yes, but only from Amazon’s website.
Steps:
- Go to Amazon → Manage Your Content and Devices
- Select View: Audiobooks
- Choose a title to delete
- Click Delete and then Yes, delete permanently

Warning: This action removes the audiobook from your account completely.
Purchased Audible books (via credit or cash) remain yours forever. You can re-download them anytime, even after canceling membership unless you permanently delete them from Amazon.
